The committee heard testimony on the recently completed North American Free Trade Agreement in one of a series of hearings on the trade pact between the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Witnesses included business and labor leaders, who discussed the provisions contained in the agreement and their impact on the American labor force. Supporters of the legislation claim it will benefit the U.S., Canada and Mexico economically through the lowering of trade barriers, while opponents of the legislation claim it will result in the movement of American industry to Mexico where it can enjoy less rigorous fair wage and environmental regulations. close
