Subcommittee members heard testimony on the need for more federal funding of Alzheimer’s disease research and drug treatment. Medical researchers and several persons who were personally affected by these problems testified about how and why the federal government should increase spending in these areas. Senator Wellstone and Rep. Ramstad are sponsoring legislation to ensure that health insurance companies provide coverage for substance abuse problems as for other diseases. close
