The committee heard testimony on the Environmental Protection Agency’s fiscal year 1992 budget request, which amounted to $6.2 billion, the same amount in constant dollars as the agency’s budget in 1991. Secretary Reilly announced the EPA’s priorities in 1992: the enforcement of the Clean Air Act, protection of food products from pesticides, environmental education, analysis of previous EPA decisions, reduction of lead in the environment, and protection of specific areas of the U.S. from global climate change. The secretary then responded to questions and criticisms of the performance of the EPA from committee members. close
