Iras Stoll talked about his book Samuel Adams: A Life (Free Press, November 4, 2008). In the book Mr. Stoll recalls the life of Samuel Adams, who he argues deserves greater recognition as one of America’s founding fathers. Mr. Stoll recounts that Samuel Adams, a highly religious man, believed that God desired a free America and as long as the people remained virtuous, that desire would come to fruition. Samuel Adams assisted in the planning of the Boston Tea Party, and as newspaper editor constantly argued against taxation without representation. Among his remarks, Mr. Stoll spoke on Samuel Adams' background, his thoughts on slavery and religion, and his role in introducing Thanksgiving as a holiday. He responded to audience members' questions.
