Eric Blum responded to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Shelby County, Alabama v. Eric H. Holder, Jr. in which the court ruled that the preclearance provisions of the Voting Rights Act could not be enforced until Congress established new guidelines for review. His organization helped Shelby County bring suit against the Justice Department over the unfairness of some provisions of the Voting Rights Act. Mr. Blum praised the decision as a victory for equal application of the law and as a demonstration of the nation’s progress toward equality. close
