Military Operations in Afghanistan

General John Allen briefed reporters on military operations in Afghanistan. He said that coalition forces are working "very hard" to address recent deadly attacks by Afghans on their western trainers. He declined to confirm Afghan government allegations that foreign intelligence services from neighboring countries are to blame for the attacks, saying a number of factors are likely at play including the Ramadan holiday which requires daily fasting by Muslims. General Allen expressed confidence on the overall war effort, saying Taliban attacks have become increasingly localized, affecting less of the population than in years past.
