      <description>The House Small Business Committee held a hearing to discuss efforts to rebuild the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast. Members of the committee considered whether policy changes were needed to help small businesses expedite the recovery. Officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) testified on their agency's efforts to help small business owners in the Hurricane Katrina disaster areas. Following their remarks, a panel of small business owners testified about the effects of Hurricane Katrina on their businesses.
 
 The SBA provides low-interest loans to help small employers and homeowners rebuild and recover from disasters.</description>

      <description>Operation HOPE officially launched a national financial literacy campaign, "Banking on Our Future Across America," for inner city youth and minority communities. Among the issues they addressed were home ownership and community development, financial planning for independence, and other economic issues such as health care and retirement planning. It was part of what the group called a "new civil rights movement."  Former Representative Kemp and the Rev. Lowery hosted for the conference and Mr. Boston moderated the panel on involving the community in the program.</description>

Among the issues they discussed were tax relief, welfare reform, the new economy, and the role of education. Delegates also nominated Former Defense Secretary Cheney as their candidate for vice president. After Secretary Cheney accepted the nomination, he differentiated between President Clinton's governing style and the style that he and Governor Bush would bring to the White House, saying that they would govern with "conviction" rather than "calculation."</description>
