Arlington National Cemetery Management, Panel 2

The House Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the management and Arlington National Cemetery. Witnesses said news reports had shattered public trust in Arlington National Cemetery, and that cemetery officials were moving forward on the problems found by the inspector general. The previous year, an Army inspector general's report found graves that were wrongly marked or had no headstones, and made note of the outdated record-keeping system.

Colonel William Koch testified about interment practices and record keeping problems at Arlington National Cemetery. He spoke about his wife who was buried at the wrong location. A recent status report showed that Arlington National Cemetery officials recently discovered eight instances in which family members were buried at the same grave site but all the names were not added to the headstones marking the graves.
