At the start of this event, a joint declaration was released outlining religious leaders' concerns about interfaith relations and anti-Muslim bigotry in the U.S.</description>

      <description>In his book [Stirring It Up: How to Make Money and Save the World,] Gary Hirshberg says that ecologically sound practices in business are economically sound in the long run. He argues that consuming environmentally friendly goods sends a message to companies and enables consumers to use our purchasing power to save the planet. Mr. Hirshberg participated in this panel discussion, "Saving the Environment," along with business, religious, and community leaders who shared their approaches to helping the environment. Renee Loth of the [Boston Globe] moderated.</description>

      <title>Politics in a Post-Religious America</title>
      <description>Jim Wallis, the founder and editor in chief of [Sojourners magazine], talked about his book [The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith and Politics in a Post-Religious Right America], published by HarperOne. A panel of evangelicals then discussed what political and social justice issues concerned evangelicals and the stereotypes in the media of who evangelicals are and what they wanted. Mr. Waldman introduced new survey results that said the issues of the economy, cleaning up government, access to health care and education, and reducing poverty were more important than stopping abortions and gay marriages. Other topics included AIDS relief and climate change. They responded to questions from members of the audience. Steve Waldman and David Kuo moderated.
 
 The panel discussion titled "Choosing a President: What Do Evangelicals Want?" was  sponsored by Sojourners and Beliefnet and took place at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.</description>

      <description>Patrick Hynes discussed his book [In Defense of the Religious Right: Why Conservative Christians Are the Lifeblood of the Republican Party and Why That Terrifies the Democrats], published by Nelson Current. He challenged negative stereotypes associated with conservative Christians and referred to religious conservatives as "the lifeblood of the Republican party."  Mr. Hynes discussed his book with guest interviewer Richard Cizik.
 
 Patrick Hynes is a Republican political consultant. He also writes for the [American Spectator], is a blogger for anklebitingpundits.com, and previously served on the [Concord Monitor]'s board of contributors.
 
 Richard Cizik is vice president for governmental affairs for the National Association of Evangelicals.</description>
