      <description>Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. Mr. Broder discussed headlines from papers across the country and the National Governors' Association meeting. In the newspaper roundtable, Governors Beasley and Nelson discussed headlines from papers across the country. In the point-counterpoint discussion, Governors Carper and Weld discussed welfare reform. Mrs. Bayh, Mrs. Ridge and, via satellite, Mrs. Rosello and Mrs. Schafer discussed governors' spouses and their roles as supports and helpers for the governors of the different states.</description>
