      <title>New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, Panel 1</title>
      <description>State and Defense Department officials gave an update on the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the U.S. and Russia. They focused on the pace of the treaty's implementation and the future of the strategic nuclear reductions process. On February 5, 2011 the new START Treaty went into force. It called for reducing U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals by 1/3 and allows 18 on-site inspections by each side per year. They responded to questions from the audience.</description>

      <title>New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty</title>
      <description>State and Defense department officials spoke about the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with Russia. Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller and Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Jim Miller presented the Administration's case for the START treaty's passage by the U.S. Senate. 
The treaty is designed to lower the nuclear stockpiles of both nations by 1/3. President Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the new treaty the previous April, and it required the support of 67 of 100 senators for ratification.</description>

      <title>Nuclear Nonproliferation and Historians Panel</title>
      <description>Ambassador Fahmy, Secretary Bodman, and Ms. Giannella addressed a day-long conference on nuclear non-proliferation issues. They talked about the threats to international security posed by nuclear and other weapons proliferation, the interest in nuclear technology by rogue states international terrorism cells, international monitoring efforts in several regions including Iran and North Korea, the status of nuclear disarmament agreements, and the need to reduce weapons stockpiles while encouraging the peaceful use of nuclear energy and medicine technologies.
 
 Following Ms. Gianella's remarks, footage from the documentary film [Genie In a Bottle:  Unleashed], created by two 13-year-old boys from Chicago, was shown. Stephen Sotor and Trace Gaynor spoke about their film and its presentation at the Children's International Film Festival in Chicago, Illinois.
 
 Historians participated in a panel on the history and proliferation of the atomic bomb. Ms. Robbins moderated the discussion.</description>
