Floyd, in which the Court unanimously voted that passengers on international flights cannot sue for emotional stress suffered in near accidents; Leathers v. Medlock in which the Court held that states may tax cable television operators, even if other news media are exempt, without violating the First Amendment; and, Massey v. Washington, in which the Court rejected an argument that it was cruel and unusual punishment to impose a life sentence, without the possibility of parole, on a convicted murderer who was 13 years old at the time of the crime. The two panelists discussed the case of McCleskey v. Zant, which was decided this week. The case involved the writ of habeas corpus, with the decision limiting the number of appeals a prisoner can file.
