      <title>Terrorist Attacks in U.S.</title>
      <description>At 7:15 p.m. EDT members of Congress gathered on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. The buildings had been closed earlier in the day because of the threat of attack. Congressional leaders spoke about the attacks today on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and offered their condolences to families of victims. They said that both Houses of Congress would convene tomorrow. Following their remarks, members of Congress sang "God Bless America."</description>

      <description>Senators spoke to reporters about the release of previously classified transcripts of closed meetings of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations from 1953 and 1954. The transcripts revealed the process by which Senator Joseph McCarthy questioned witnesses in closed session and subsequently selected witnesses to appear before open committee hearings. They also talked about his preference for witnesses that he believed he could intimidate during the hearings. Senator McCarthy was censured by the Senate for his conduct in the nationally televised hearings.</description>
